Why I embraced Islam

The media classifies Muslims as "terrorists," "highjackers" and "kidnappers." So why would anyone even look at Islam? Why are so many priests and preachers going to Islam? Read my story

Anger Management in Islam

Anger Management in Islam

By: Um Abd Al-Rahman

Anger can lead to early death.  Chronic anger, hostility, and aggression raise your risk of developing various deadly forms of heart disease by as much as five times the normal rate. The more hostility you tend to express, the more one is prone to heart disease. If you find that you immediately get angry when you have to wait in traffic or when confronted with a long line at the grocery checkout, or constantly yelling at your loved ones, you may be slowly killing yourself.

Pillars of Faith in Islam

Pillars of Faith in Islam

By: Om Mohammed

So many people today, even non-Muslims, have the basic underlying knowledge of what Islam is about, by the spread of the concept of the five pillars of the religion.

However, the essence of any religion is all is the underlying essence of belief. And, as is evident by the practices of adherents of the various world religions, the essence of belief is that of a being greater than one’s self, who or which is in command of all things governing his/her life. In the case of some religions, this power of divine command is divided among multiple ‘gods’, which are designated reign over certain aspects of governing over life and existence.

As concerned with Islam, belief is entailed of 6 essential portents, each equally important as the other. For, without the belief in any one of these aspects, one’s essential Islam is rendered in question.

Prequisites and Requirements of Salat

12. Salat Ul-Kusuf (Prayer of the Solar and Lunar Eclipses)

Prayers of the eclipses are important Sunnah, Sunnah mu’akkadah (a stressed Sunnah), of the Messenger of Allah (pbuh). He said:

The sun and the moon are two signs from among Allah’s signs and there is no eclipse due to someone’s death or life. If you see them occurring, hurry to pray. (Al-Bukhari and Muslim).

Abdus Salam Sipes

I grew up in a dysfunctional family setting in the atmosphere of alcoholism and physical and emotional abuse that came from my father. Without a positive father figure I was basically developing antisocial behavior and an inclination to violence. I began to imitate what I was being exposed to. This process of imitation began unconsciously. It affected my interaction with my older brother, classmates, teachers and animals, too. Nothing was exempt from my sadistic outpouring of pent up anger and rage!

Obligation of Dawah

Obligation of Dawah

By: Abdul Ghafoor Hustad

I was born and raised in Chicago to a catholic family. My mother being the oldest of nine and raised in a fairly strict household put no pressure on me to attend religious services. Towards the end of high school I began to think about the purpose of life and the possibilities of a Creator. As it would so happen I met another American revert at a BBQ who shared with me his knowledge of Islam. After about a year or so of research, discussions with various religious figures, and lots of thought I accepted Islam. Alhamdulilah, the following year my mother took her shahada as well. I cannot imagine what my life would be like today had I not accepted Islam or where I would be, had people (may Allah reward them) not taken the time to show me this beautiful way of life.

The Leadership of Muhammad

The Leadership of Muhammad

By: Um AbdAl-Rahman

We, who submit our wills to obey and worship God alone and believe Muhammad (pbuh) is His last messenger (meaning Muslim in Arabic) have been called to be the leaders of mankind.

You are the best nation (Ummah) produced [as an example] for mankind.”  (Q. 3:110)

11. Salat Ul-Istisqa’ (Prayer for Rain)

It is Sunnah to pray for rain if there is drought or otherwise an urgent need for rain. This is supported by the following tradition:

The Messenger of Allah (pbuh) went out (to make the Salat ul-Istisqa’) wearing old clothes, in a humble and lowly manner, and prayed two rak’at as he prayed the ‘Id, but he did not give a similar khutbah (Ibn ‘Abbas in Ahmad, Abu Dawud, Al-Bukhari, Muslim, and At-Tirmidhi).

THE MOST BENEFICIAL SUPPLICATION

THE MOST BENEFICIAL SUPPLICATION

By: Om Mohammed

A man and his wife had been trying for more than fifteen years to have children. They had not left any stone unturned, but which they tried in their effort to have children. Nothing was of any benefit. If anything, their long search for offspring with no fruit, only served to tear at their nerves even more, making it evidently even more difficult for them to conceive.

Aminah Assilmi

He explained that Allah told us to seek knowledge and questions were one of the ways to accomplish that. When he explained something, it was like watching a rose open – petal by petal, until it reached its full glory. When I told him that I did not agree with something and why, he always said I was correct up to a point. The he would show me how to look deeper and from different directions to reach a fuller understanding. Alhamdulillah!
