Question 140: There is a contradiction between the Qur’an and the events in the prophetic traditions.  God promised Muhammad and his companions victory, but they were defeated in Uhud, for example. How do you explain this?

The beauty of the sound of a bird singing; the sight of a horse cantering; the smell of a rose; the touch of a loved one; the taste of hot pizza are all results of the union of the male and female creature given the gift of life and propagating life through partnership by the will of the Creator Most High.   Allah Most High says, "And of everything we have created pairs, that you may remember."  (Qur'an 51:49) 

     Opponents of Islam sometimes allege that Muhammad himself wrote the Qur'an or copied or adapted it from previous scriptures.¹ But it is known that the Prophet's contacts with Jews and Christians was negligible before his emigration from Makkah, and after it, his role was that of a teacher, openly inviting the Jews and Christians to accept Islam while pointing out how they had deviated from the true monotheism taught by their prophets.
