Why I embraced Islam

The media classifies Muslims as "terrorists," "highjackers" and "kidnappers." So why would anyone even look at Islam? Why are so many priests and preachers going to Islam? Read my story

Islam and Freedom of Speech?

Many Muslims believe that the only successful political system that secures happiness for human beings is the model in the Western environment, because it guarantees freedom of speech. However, if we ask a Muslim if he wants the kind of freedom the West has when it was likely to be at the expense of happiness in the Life hereafter, he would most probably answer, “No.”

4. Mercy and Kindness to Orphans

In a couple of the teaching of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) we read that he said that whoever fosters an orphan will be the Prophet’s companion in Paradise. The exact wording indicating this is graphically given "like these two fingers (index and middle fingers) in Paradise." Naturally, this is in spirit of the Qur'anic injunctions regarding orphans and their rights, such as the ones we find in the Qur'an..

"And test the orphans until they attain puberty, then if you find in them maturity of intellect, turn over to them their property, and do not consume it extravegantly and hastily lest they attain to full age…" (The Qur'an, 4: 6).  Doing injustice to orphas is considered a grievous crime. We read in the Qur'an: "(As for) who swallow the property of the orphans unjustly, surely they only swallow fire into their bellies and they shall enter buring fire." (Chapter 4: 10).

My search for a religion began in high school when I was fifteen or sixteen years old. I had been associating with a bad group of people whom I thought were my friends, but in time I realized these people were losers. I saw what direction their lives were heading, and it wasn't a good one. I didn't want them to have any affect on my success for the future, so I cut myself off from them completely. It was hard in the beginning because I was alone without friends.

3.21 DISLIKED ACTIONS DURING SALAT (MAKRUHAT US-SALAT)

There are some actions that are disliked during the prayer. However, such actions that fall under the category of makruhat us-Salat do not invalidate the prayer. But they are better avoided because they are disliked by the Messenger of Allah (pbuh). Ten such actions are: 1) attending to one's clothing or body; 2) hands on hips; 3) looking upwards; 4) looking at something which distracts attention; 5) clothes touching the ground and covering the mouth; 6) praying while food is being served; 7) praying before answering the call of nature; 8) praying when overcome by sleep; 9) rapid sujjud, improper jalasa, and praying at a fixed place; and 10) not straightening the back between ruku’ and sujjud.

I would like to take the opportunity to share with you my journey to Islam. I feel that by sharing this experience I can help you on your journey through life. We are all born into different cultures, countries and religions in what often seems a confusing and troubled world. When we examine the world around us, we see war, poverty and crime. Need I go on? Yet, when we look at our own upbringing and education, how can we be sure that all the things we have been told are, in reality, the truth?

Muhammad: A Mercy to the Universes

Muhammad: A Mercy to the Universes

By: Prof Mahmoud Isma’il Saleh

“We have not sent you (O Muhammad) except as a mercy to the universes.” (The Qur'an, 21: 107) This verse comes near the end of the Chapter of the Prophets which tells us the stories of the different prophets and messengers of God. A close look at this verse from the Qur'an states in the most emphatic manner this special mission of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), as can be seen from the bold faced words. The Prophet is told by Allah that his sole mission is mercy to the worlds (al-aalamiin).

What is the Islamic Concept of Freedom?

Freedom in Islam does not mean the absolute freedom of the secular cry. Islam is a realistic religion, comprehensive in perspective.

Chadi

I was born in Lebanon. My father is Druze, and my mother Christian. I attended Christian school and at home my mother encouraged me to learn more about Jesus. This lasted until late in adolescence, when I realized that the Bible, although a good book, did not penetrate the depth of my soul. It contains the story of Jesus and his actions, but I could not find in it the majesty of the words of God. So I asked God to guide me to His way in any religion He would choose for me. Since my home environment did not favor Islam, I could not imagine that God wanted me to be a Muslim. I was even very bothered to hear the adhan or see any Islamic activity.
